Hi Ben,
}- Novell NetWare itself is most definitely client-server, even
}- the early versions - AFAIK 2.xx (I had 2.15c upstairs I think)
}- could run either as a dedicated server or in the background of
}- DOS. The stuff that ships with DR-DOS is Personal NetWare, a
}- peer-to-peer system much like that found in Windows - only,
}- better (I would say that though - not only do I find SMB
}- networking too much hassle (samba anyone) I run a group of
}- NetWare/PNW networks with no trouble).
This is what I thought... I have been reading the DR-DOS docs
about Personal Netware. This method still requires network
cards, which isn't all that different from my husband's old
Novell 3.11. This is fine for learning though, just what I
need.
However, someone from this list I think, named Robert Van Etta
recommended Otexlan5 in an email and this is *exactly* what I was
looking for. It allows networking with cards or without, over
serial and parallel ports, even with modems. It's not freeware
but it is shareware. If anyone else is interested it can be
found at http://www.Otex.com
Boanne :)
