I thought (and still do) that you need two kinds of programs:
* Scanner program (including OCR)
* Image editing program
The image editing program should be able to change pictures, but OCR is
text now isn't it? Wouldn't a normal texteditor be better for that? Perhaps
I've gotten this all backwards.
Since I know nothing (almost) about scanners I'm not going to try and guess
what your best course of action is. Ok, I'll try anyway, try and find one
that works in Win 3.x and get that (and Win 3.x). You will only have to
leave DOS for a few minutes and it doesn't take up that much space (lowest
size is actually a few 100K, but that's without program manager etc.)

Isn't that a beta too? 1.48b, well I would wait a while longer if I were
you anyway since there aren't any bug news except GIF animations (and less
crashes).

I think it shows that you actually read the mails (I'm not stating that
noone doesn't), and atleast *I* feel much better after seeing that I've
perhaps made some diffrence more than just typing in a lot of keys on my
keyboard ;)
However, if we all start to do like this then the mailinglist will probably
be flooded :(
I don't know what your course of action will be, but since there was still
some unsolved issues I think this mail was usefull to send (but was this
reply?)
