Hello again all,

Many thanks for the answers and ideas I've received in response to my
posting of Sun, 16 May 1999 (DOS/older PC's) both by direct e-mail and
on the list server. Specifically, thank you to: Boanne, Dale Mentzer,
Bernie, Ben Jemmett, Bob Williams and Fraser Farrell.

Unfortunately, none of the replies even mentioned a way to operate a
scanner from DOS. I wonder, would a SCSI scanner hooked to a SCSI card
work from DOS? I would hate to have to buy another scanner, but if
that's what it takes....

Bernie, I downloaded Pixel, but don't remember it having any OCR
capabilities. Guess I'll download it again and look at it closer this
time.

Boanne, I was glad to hear I'm not the only one who couldn't make
Bobcat work. Now I can reclaim a little disk space. E-mail coming.

Ben, I played with GEM until I was blue in the face, but couldn't make
it do anything! Finally gave up and wiped it.

Dale & Bernie, thanx for the tip on Desktop2 - I'll try it.

Bob, NewPublish sounds good, will look into it. Thanks.

Fraser, bless you! I got the case off. It did not want to come off,
but your directions were exact, and it finally yielded to my threats
of plastic explosive! I had a VGA card from an XT, which did fit into
one of the 6 short slots, but couldn't get it to do anything. The
keyboard adapter sounds like a good bet, I'll try it. There's only one
card in there: it looks like a HFDD controller. What are the chances of
finding an 8-bit internal modem that would work adequately? Your idea
of a serial port card is probably the way to go. Thanks again.

To everyone who suggested Arachne 1.50b: When it's out of beta, maybe.
Until then, it ain't broke, so I don't think I'll fix it. I had too
much trouble getting 1.48 to work to take any chances. Thanks, though.

Hope I haven't broken any rules, unwritten or otherwise, with this long
acknowledgement. Thanks, everyone.
