Or. My point was not intended to begin a pilpul between Windows/GUIs and
DOS. My concern is not which OS will be in Olam Haba (The World to Come),
but where our focus should properly be -- where our time and energies
should be spent -- in getting a clear understanding and efficient use of
our computers without wasting a lot of time, money and other resources.

A lot of children hate learning how to read, too, but how many parents
give in to their children's whining by offering them crayons and paper
instead?
If you give your son the keys to your car, that's one thing. You'll be
giving him freedom to choose where he wants to go. But isn't it better to
teach him a basic understanding of car problems, instead of having him get
the car towed to a mechanic's garage every time it runs out of gas, the
battery runs down, or if he gets a flat tire?
A little practical wisdom given early in the beginning of computer skill
training -- pleasant or unpleasant -- will save untold time and
discouragement later on.

Ok. If a shell is desired, there are plenty of free ones, as well as the
few that come bundled with some of the DOS versions. Sometimes I find it
necessary to have a visual, working directory chart when I'm dealing with
a lot of files at once. If I need more detail, Dosshell is sufficient,
but it's somewhat slow; if I want to do something quicker without loading
Dosshell , I find that PC Valet Shell, which is only about 26k in size, is
just right (and very fast) for my needs -- it does most of what Dosshell
does, and it's free.

Fine. I know you respect and use the CLI, but we need to set the proper
example for others by pointing to useful computing skills more than
temporary computing crutches.
