Hi, Bob,
There is a smaller file, PTS-DOS lite, on the website,

http://www.phystechsoft.com/

which just makes a bootable floppy with a few of the utilities. Even the
complete "demo" distribution's zip file archive fits very comfortably on one
1.44MB floppy, even unzipped, I think it still fits on one 1.44MB floppy
disk. Compare that to three floppies for the "lite" version of DR-DOS 7.02
without the NetWare Lite networking stuff; five disks for the complete
version of DR-DOS 7.02; and five disks for PC-DOS 7.00 or PC-DOS 2000, four
of which are XDF 1.7MB disks. Of course, 2.1MB of that file size in PC-DOS
is the installation files for the full implementation of Stacker 4.0 for DOS
and Windows 3.XX. Personally, I'm in favor of PTS-DOS being distributed
with everything they write that runs under it; the more the better. You can
always delete what you don't want.

One thing I like about PC-DOS is the installation routine which gives you
the opportunity to check or uncheck those components you do or don't want to
install before you actually install the DOS. That way, you can decide not
to install the included Phoenix PCMCIA laptop card support on your desktop
machine, or to load or not to load the IBM antivirus software, the DOS
Shell--remember that?, or the CP backup and scheduler, or the Stacker disk
compression, or the REXX language support. You also get machine-readable
copies of all the manuals, the DOS manual, the REXX manual, and the Stacker
manual with PC-DOS, in addition to the usual DOS help facilities we've come
to expect from everybody's DOS versions since 5.0.

And the winner is still, PC-DOS!
