On Monday, Boanne Lorraine <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> typed:
] >From what I have seen and heard with others, this is absolutely
] true. I can only speak from my own experience and what others
] tell me - there are very good reasons why I will only buy
] Toshiba when it comes to laptops. I've known people who bought
] Compaqs, Dells, IBMs, and too many "off brands" to name, and they
] all had *serious* problems with PCMCIA.
FWIW, I know someone (well, he's psuedonim is "Gill Bates" and writes
the (only) computer column in the local paper; most of the articles
are about Linux, and anti-M$ etc), and he can't get a PCMCIA network
card/modem to work in windows at all, but works fine under Linux.
No-one can figure it out.
Contrary to Boanne's glowing report on them, the laptop was a Toshiba
Satelliete 2700CDT [IIRC, something like that anyway]. But I suspect
he spends most of his time in Linux anyway, so its no biggy. :)
[You should see him trying to figure out a problem someone else if
having with a hardware device under linux, typing away, knowing
exactly when to press TAB, and those other bash command line
improvements. Like the ORB drive last LUG [Linux Users Group].
This guy also manages 47 POPs of an ISP, all of them running linux.
But it's not classed as a national ISP since none are in any capital
city. Atleast it lets farmers have local call access to the 'net.]
] I should also say that my first Toshiba (T1000 - circa 1987) is
] still running just fine. My son has it now and uses it for
MINE DIED! :'-(
I think the BIOS stuffed up before the fatal "ripping of the white
box" indicident.
Well, it only cost me $20, and I had it for other a year, even took
it up north Queensland one holiday so I wouldn't get withdrawl
symptons. <G> Also for a diary.
