Lots of wisdom already spoken on UPS / SMPS problems, but here's
another thought:

   The power supply usually fitted to PCs has, in addition to the +5,
-5, +12 AND -12 lines, a line called POWER-GOOD. This holds the reset
circuit on the motherboard ON if the power lines are not up to the
required voltages.

   Seems very likely to me that a very low mains input voltage, just on
the borderline of "enough", will occasionally cause the SMPS to be
unable to generate all the correct voltages and the power-good line will
cause the motherboard's reset geberator to come on, just as if the
PC had just been turned on.

   Well - just a thought....
