Try a search at <www.dogpile.com> or <www.ask.com> on UPS and look at
the technical explanations of how they work.
If what the person were suggesting then why do ISP's who use racks of
standard PC's bother to put a UPS onto them?
Why do the PC chassis mfg who build rack-mount hardware specifiy a UPS
as standard equipment in them?
IMO that sounds like another case of low-cost equipment is the first
problem in a chain of events.
