Yes, I too would be careful here. It would be very
difficult (and probably expensive) to complain if they
simply deleted the files and to them, the problem would
then be gone. If they perceive it as a problem that is.
  I do think that in most countries the websites and
accounts would belong the legal heirs. Just like any other
property of the deceased. Legality, however is often of no
help.
  If you talk the right way to the right person, things
usually work out well. The problem is, how do you find the
right person? Maby we're just being paranoid here, but I
would try some other avenues first.
