boB and Eko:

Thank You both especially Eko, for all of your help so far ... it
is much appreciated :)

boB, I think you are correct about my memory settings ...

here is what has happened so far:

I gave up on arachne for now ...

and Tried to download IE5 ... yet am putting this to rest also
for now ...

everything is fine with my copy of windows ... I even got the old
Colorado 350 tape drive working ...

so, I thought tonite to Finally try and install the norton
utilities ... I put the install floppy, as instructed, in a: and typed
"install" and my system said: "not enough memory" - - - What does this
mean?

here upon boot are my mem. settings:

                                Base Mem Size: 640 KB
                                Ext. Mem Size: 7168 KB

      64 KB cache memory
     384 KB Shadow RAM

HIMEM activated ( supposedly makes use of and available extended memory )

the nortons require 640K memory - 1 MB rec. ... 4 MB for win. components

I was under the impression that my machine had 8 MB installed - at least
each 1 MB shows up pre-boot and i think it all gets counted in the mem.
count ... again, Thank-you both for all the help so far yet does anyone
have any ideas on this?

Thank You in advance for any of them.

sincerely,

andy
