  Possibly just what it says. <g> You didn't say how much
memory you had available.

OK, so you have 8megs, but how much of that (particularly
the first 640k) is already used?

  Sorry, if you already know all about this, but if you
type "mem" you will get a short report of memory usage. It
should look something like this: (I've snipped some lines)

 -  Memory Type        Total  =   Used  +   Free
 -  ----------------  -------   -------   -------
 -  Conventional         640K       58K      582K
 -  Total under 1 MB     783K      173K      610K
 -
 -  Largest executable program size       582K (595 536 bytes)

That last line tells you a lot! If it is much lower than
what I've shown, then you could have a problem with the
way you're loading programs. CDRom drivers, for example,
take up quite a chunk.
  If this is on the right track, type "mem/c/p" and post
the results to the list and you'll get help. As Yolanda
pointed out, memmaker can be useful too.
