If you have already bought a registered copy of PKzip 2.04g, you can get
PKzip 2.5 for free -- as an upgrade to your existing older version. This is
what I did. You must have *every* file exactly as installed from the
original registered version before the extraction of the newer version works
properly. And even then, as of the most recent DOS PKzip upgrade, it won't
function as fully as the older one... that is, it doesn't have the nice
configuration program/file utility of the earlier version. So I've only
installed it on another machine of mine that uses Win9x where I may need
LFN archives... Otherwise, I prefer the older, fully functional version
where I perform most of my computer work under PC DOS.
The newer version offers a few more levels of compression, but I haven't
noticed that big of an improvement. Also, there doesn't seem to be near the
documentation with the new version upgrade as that which comes with the manu
of the older registered program.
