Here are the results in the "SurvPC Survey -99"
All typos, misscalculations are my fault (or perhaps my calculator if the
batteries have run low <G>). I meant to look it over once again - but I
have not had the time.
I've tried to keep the size down while still maintain an easy way to read
the information (since this is text that isn't all that easy - perhaps a
HTML version as well?). Please if you reply to it (that was my idea -
you'll see on what), make sure you cut out the non-esential parts.

Thanks to all that sent in answers. I hope I didn't manage to loose any
answer anywhere - if so then it was not anything I had planed.

(x,y = x.y for those who use that type)

These couldn't be counted because of the answers:

Female

"between 30 and 40"
23

Other/Unknown

"mid thirties"

Perhaps there should be "age classes" (10-19, 20-29 etc.) next time, or
perhaps everyone will answer "correctly" next time?

Will answer RTFM:
(Two people (4,65%) didn't answer)
(Please note - since the ammount of diffrent answers were so high I've
tried to interpret them under the question ("Will you point to the FAQ if
the question is well-covered in it?") since this seems to be what most of
the participants meant when they answered. All "Probably", "If" and "Maybe"
answers have been changed to "Yes". Also see Note #7)

And now a few more questions... (please respond by private e-mail to
[EMAIL PROTECTED], and please cut out the other parts).

1. Should there be any survey next year?

y Yes
n No
o more Often (please specify timespan)
g Get someone else to do it (I vote for that, this took quite some time -
or perhaps divide the work or get a database to store things in can help)

2. Would you use a web-based option to answering?

y Yes
n No

3. Shall the survey be called:

0 "SurvPC Survey -00"
2 "SurvPC Survey 2000"
O Other (please specify)
("SurvPC Survey [insert_month] -99" will not be appreciated as a joke!)

Notes:

#1
I took the number at the begining of September. Of course lurkers weren't
counted since that's impossible.

#2
Many in the US also responded with city and state - I've left this out of
the survey since it wasn't an actuall question.

#3
"Non-computer" sounds strange to me - but I never had time to check it up
since I noticed it first when making this mail. 4GL/SQL is rather wage as
well - many of the other listed are of the 4GL type.

#4
I was incredibly wage on what the diffrent answers actually were, a few of
the answers was uncertain and in two cases I had to guess (between a/b and
c/d).
One answer was also incorrect, and the correct one was the one that was
added to the survey after I replied to the person in question.

#5
I simply calculated between first computer and first Internet access. The
-4 value is from one person that had accounts before a computer.
Interestingly enough the ammount is the same after 95 as before - so
Windows95 didn't raise the ammount that much, atleast not of people
accessing the Net that later "ended up" here.

#6
Several of the people on the list work at home, and therefor makes it hard
to state if they can access the Net from home or from work. I have added
these individuals on both of them.

#7
One wouldn't read the FAQ but would point others to it, another would
probably not read it but would also point it out.

#8
The three people who have felt a need to improve the survey will probably
be contacted next year ;)
Only one of them actually told me what would make it better (interactive on
the web).

Now I only have two things to add.

First, no matter that this did take quite some time to do (atleast for me,
with just pen, paper and a calculator) it was very fun to find out more
about the members of the list (no I will not use any information against
you <g>).
Secondly I hope that we can look forward to another great year, it's been a
great time so far, we are one of the last "bastalions" for DOS users still
out here.
