G'day all,

If you're like me and run Windows 3.1 or Workgroups on top of DR-DOS,
then you're probably amused or annoyed by the message that Windows
issues whenever you go to a DOS shell. You know, the one that reads
"Press ALT+ENTER to switch between this MS-DOS prompt and Windows" etc.

To change this message to read "...to switch between this DR-DOS prompt
and Windows" (or anything with the same number of characters) you need
to edit two files - WIN.CNF and WIN386.EXE - in your WINDOWS\SYSTEM
directory. Use your favourite hex editor (eg: Norton Utilities) to
search for and alter the message; which appears a few times within these
files.

Although the message is actually displayed by WIN.COM, the files WIN.CNF
and WIN386.EXE are used to rebuild WIN.COM every time Windows is started.

If you're feeling adventurous you could also change the other text
messages too... ;-)

cheers,
Fraser Farrell
