The following notice appeared in this month's virus definitions package
for McAfee VirusScan:

ATTENTION: NETWORK ASSOCIATES WILL DISCONTINUE
.DAT FILE UPDATES FOR THE V3.X PRODUCT SERIES
ON DECEMBER 15, 1999. THIS WILL NOT AFFECT
NETWORK ASSOCIATES SUPPORT FOR THE V4.X SERIES
OF ANTI-VIRUS PRODUCTS. NETWORK ASSOCIATES
RECOMMENDS STRONGLY THAT YOU UPGRADE YOUR
SOFTWARE TO CURRENT VERSIONS TO MAINTAIN
YOUR ANTI-VIRUS SECURITY.
The 3209 .DAT files are compatible with all
Network Associates v3.x anti-virus products,
except for VirusScan* anti-virus software for
DOS versions earlier than v3.1.5. These .DAT
files will NOT work with v4.x.xx scan engines,
with v2.x or earlier product versions, or with
any version of the VShield* TSR. The .DAT files
WILL, however, work with all 3.x versions of
the VShield scanner for Windows.

Unfortunately the version 4.x series are Win95 products... :(
