I'm not talking about this very seriously, but its a nice idea:
Sometime ago, michael half-joked about making an ArachneCon.
This brought up an intresting idea, which i'm not really sure that is
possible: Making some sort of a SurvPC con..
There was an Atari Con some time ago, and it worked very well.
The general idea is to make a Con about things related to SurvPCs.
It could include showing how to use that "old survpc in the corner"
today instead of just letting it collect dust or be trown out, how
you can give it life using DR/PTS/PC-DOS and programs like NetTamer
or Arachne and NewDeal and whatever. Then how to use it at work
or even at home. (for work, an example of how to build a network of
low-end clients based on an avarage or strong Linux server in the
center).
In my opinion, it could be nice if it will be done for real, as long
as it wouldnt be "too serious" as the latest popular computer shows
are.. these shows are either too serious, or include "fun" for marketing
purposes.
hm.. anyone remember in Defcon that they putted up a LAN with several
computers, and did a Quake deathmatch competition? <g>
Maybe also show-off some of the home-made computers lots of us seemed
to make, or show 'old/rare computers' collections.. (sinclair, Lisa,
Atari, those things).
Could be intresting.
