If my sources are correct, the SysRq key was vaguely related to mainframes -
maybe the IBM dual-mode PC/mainframe terminal used it for something.  As
Casper pointed out, it's used by some applications or systems.  Some of my
DOS apps use it to enter a debugging mode.
