Dear FW,
The 'Macro' key, on a lot of older keyboards, was used to record
key sequences that you could then use by pressing a single key. I
use an ancient "Keypro" to automate lots of system administrator
tasks - ones that have to be done in the utility program provided for
the purpose, but when you have to make the same change for 300
accounts, gets very cumbersome.
Mine works by:
* -At a DOS command line, hold down MACRO+(some Fx key,
with x being #1-12)
* -Type the keystrokes you want it to echo, one at a time. (Mine
will use up to about 12 keystrokes.)
* -Press the MACRO key when done.
* -Test by pressing the Fx-key. It should echo back all of the
keystrokes, one after the other.
Experiment with your keyboard; it may work similarly.
However, this keyboard is getting on in years, and I'd like to be
able to have a spare on hand. Anyone know where I can purchase
a new keyboard with this functionality?
