Take a check at <http://www.pc-help.org/> this is freeware which takes
advantage of tools in W95 and runs in the DOS box. There is a list of
the files used so it seems to me you could run pc-help.org's "trace" in
a plain DOS environment.

The developer is a committed programmer so you all may get some help
from him too.
