I've just read a book on Spam... Yes! There's a whole book
on the subject!
A couple of points to correct... it was first put on the market
in 1937... it had nothing to do with the war (although a lot of
it was used in GI rations).
Also, Hormel are adamant that they have *never* used anything
but pork shoulder and ham. A lot of "me too" companies sprang
up in the late 30's with similar products that *did* use all
manner of yukky bits but Hormel won the market on quality.
