Well, not only is DOS 16-bit, not 8, but the Deschutes(sp?) architecture
(PII, PIII) is only 32-bit.

Software to increase DOS's awareness of 32-bit machines exists.  They're
called DOS extenders.  Technically, they provide means of slamming the
processor into 32-bit mode but still being able to call the 16-bit DOS
services, or providing DOS-like services to 32-bit apps.  DOS/4GW is/was a
common extender, as are PharLap and Windows.
