Rodd:

If you look at <http://www.i-opener-linux.net/> you find a lot more
up-to-date information than the articles in ZDNet, InfoWorld,
ComputerWorld, InfoWeek, etc...

There are ways to work around the barriers the North American
distributor - Netpliance - has recently put in place.

IMO by fall of 2000 we will see units with this level of functionality
for retail sales at less than $399 USD.

I think the "bargains" "Jerry J. Haumberger" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> found are
out there, if we go out and ask questions of local organizations. I have
seen three more big companies in Northern California commit to the
MS-Windows 2000 upgrade path, which means there W3.1/W95 hardware is
going to available at salvage prices very soon. I have also seen laptops
with 200-250 MHz CPU, 64 MB RAM, 2GB to 4GB hard drives with volume
salvage prices in the less than $150...

Which brings into question whether it is worth the money to put a couple
hundred dollars into a SURVPC with less than a 166MHz CPU... Unless it
is a specialized unit like a SGI or SUN workstation.
