Hi Folks:

This afternoon I unpacked a never-used Mannesmann Tally, model MT 82
printer, manufactured in Germany, ca. 1990. I ascertained that everything
was complete by carefully reading the section in the owner's manual under
the same title as the subject of this message. The manual is a very thick
volume and it is organized multi-lingually for German, French, Italian,
Spanish and English. All of the printer's features, specifications, and
settings are exquisitely explained in great detail.

I acquired this printer at a flea market for ten dollars. The vendor
explained that he had received it among a lot of other items that he had
purchased in a bulk lot at an estate sale.

This indeed seems to be a very nice printer. It may be set up for printing
on either fan-fold paper or single sheets. Emulation is user-selectable for
IBM ProPrinter X-24 or for Epson LQ 850.

I have never seen in the U.S. a printer made by this manufacturer. Do any
of you have any experience in using such a printer? What do you think of
it?

This printer is provided with a parallel port. The manual says that a
serial-interface port may be installed also, and that it is available as
an option. Such would be a very nice thing to have. Does anyone know
where I might be able to acquire the serial-interface card? Is the
manufacturer still in business?

Well, now that I've unpacked it, I'm eager to find out how it works. It
certainly should perform just great, as it obviously has never been used.
No ribbon has ever been installed. The original ribbon is still in its
sealed package.

All the best,

Sam Heywood
