Bob,

}- Woz was the chip guy! He's the one that would work endless
}- hours to eliminate one more IC from designs, at put velcro on
}- the lid to make getting in easy. Jobs was the one who came up
}- with the torx-screw-secured Mac with the GUI and mouse on the
}- side!

You mean Wozniak (I can't remember his first name and I don't
know that I've spelled the last name correctly)? Out of Steve
Jobs, Woz, and Bill Gates, Woz seems to be the only one with a
modicum of common sense and real intelligence as far as I'm
concerned.

}- The reason I use AIDS and cancer is because folks tend to
}- overlook that researchers working on these diseases and a
}- million other worthy causes LOSE WORK due to viruses. If
}- nothing else, their e-mail is offline preventing them from
}- communicating with others! {...}

}- I agree COMPUTERS aren't as important, but the work done WITH
}- computers is!

So they have forgotten how to use a telephone or fax machine?
Sorry.

And how is the email going down any different from a flood or a
tornado or thunderstorm knocking out the elecrticity and/or phone
lines? I don't know where you are, but where I am these are very
real possibities. So I keep candles, battery lanterns, and a
battery powered radio nearby. In winter it's ice storms. I'm
not trying to be contentious, this really is the way I think,
sorry. My point is, as the tasteless bumper sticker says, sh*t
happens - that's not the problem. The point is preventative
measures where possible for when sh*t happens. The point is a
back-up plan for when sh*t happens. Windows in all it's
incarnations is not very good at preventative measures, backups,
security, etc. Yet some are becoming more and more dependent on
it. I'm straining pretty hard, but I still can't understand how
this is a good thing.

I understand what you are saying: the virus was done with
malicious intent, the thunderstorm is not, alright. Now try to
understand my point: it doesn't matter, is the effect not the
same?

Boanne

PS - Just for added drama, as I was typing this message there was
a tornado warning issued for my area in Kansas City. I am now
sitting in my basement, typing (laptops can run on batteries)
by battery powered lantern light. I am doing mail offline of
course while the lightening and wind rages outside.
