Hello Folks:

I have a problem. I have a very large text file consisting of a
concatenated archive of emails (501,382 bytes). I want to split it
up into several smaller and more manageable files. The file is too
large to load into any of my text editors or file viewers. I need to
to search for an old message.

Of course I could back up the original file and then write a program
to truncate the file at a specified line. Then I could easily conduct
a search within the truncated file. If I were to trouble myself to
write a program to perform this function, I would probably find myself
just re-inventing the wheel again. (I don't like to re-invent the wheel
because at my last job my boss used to always call me into his office to
give me hell for it. My excuse was that I never realized that I was doing
anything wrong because nobody ever told me that the wheel had already been
invented. He was never impressed by my ignorance on such matters, but he
was always very much amazed, even astonished at times.)

Surely other people have had this problem before and have written a special
program to deal with it. Such a program is probably available as freeware
on some download site.

Suggestions anyone?
