ReRead would digest this .5M file, list the mails and you could
extraxt the items to treat.
Though it would be useful to pre-sort the big chunk in easier to
manage parts, chronologically or along logical lines for instance.
One really nivty tool for this is Sortmail from Marting Goebbel, it
screens not only the headers but the full text and can be very fine
tuned.
