Haven't got any experience in that meself (I'm just *looking* for a
used laptop now for the first time) I remember another stumble stone:
contacts. Seems that almost all of the various producers arranged for
their proper - and often undocumented - arrangements of contact points
between the battery package and the case. Apparently this has to do
with different internal switches for the standby/(re-)chargement/
disconnect conditions. There was one thread on this on this list here
(end '98? Would that be still there, Eko ?) - seems that you can
blow/toast a Compaq if you got these contacts wrong.
