Hi everyone!
I am in need of manuals and boot disk /OS for the Tandy 2000 computer. I
cannot get any software or manuals from Tandy or Radio Shack because they don't
support the Tandy 2000 anymore. They also cant supply PCMAKER.COM which
formats floppies for the 2000 that also are able to be read with a PC. Anyone
have that program? I have spent quite a few hours this week on the phone to
the US trying to obtain anything I can for my model 2000 to no avail, probably
spending about 50 bucks on calls (with the Aussie dollar the way it
is...ouch!). If anyone knows where I can get ANYTHING for the 2000 I would
greatly appreciate the info!
As I mentioned before I would be happy to scan any manuals people want to keep,
I would of course pay for both way postage and take great care of your
manuals/documentation.
Due to the lack of software, and my keenness(is that a word?) to get my 2000
firing, I have started to write an operating system for it in assembler,
starting with a bootdisk. I am having trouble getting it to work as I don't
really know if the BIOS in the 2000 is working the same way as a PC.
I am formatting my DSQD disks in my PC to 360K . I think these will work on
the 2000?
I am assuming that, like a PC, the booting starts off looking at the last 2
bytes of the first sector on the floppy disk for 55AAh. If found it loads the
sector and executes the code. I am also assuming that the Bios Parameter Block
on the floppy is the same as the PC.
If I try to boot with a normal dos disk, the screen fills with
characters repeatedly. I think I am getting close because the bootdisk I wrote
writes 3 lines of text and loops through that, so I know that it is reading my
disk, but I have something in the coding askew
somewhere.
If anyone has a disk for the 2000, bootable or not, I would love to see the
first sector of it. You can accomplish this by getting a copy of Hex Workshop.
Put the disk in the drive (youll need a 5&1/2 in your pc!)Go to DISK then OPEN
DRIVE and then EDIT-->SELECT ALL and finally EDIT-->COPY AS-->TEXT. All you
need to do now is open up a text document and paste the sector into it.
If anyone is able to send me the text file it will help me to be able to
reconstruct a disk for mine and get a bootdisk working. Id
appreciate that a lot.
can anyone verify the following please:
1) is the (main)BIOS really on the bootdisk?
2) are most of the INT's like a pc, except for what is listed in Ralph Browns
interrupt list?
3) Is it normal for the VM-1 monochrome monitor to take over 10 minutes to warm
up before the text comes up on the screen?
4) The ONLY OS that will work on the model 2000 is MS-DOS ver 2.11 - 2.11.03?
5) There really is nowhere to buy software or manuals for it?
6) Is it normal for the Caps-lock & num-lock LEDs on the keyboard to not work
until the computer is properly booted? (mine arent working ATM)
7) DSDD or DSQD 5&1/4 disks will work formatteded to 720k using FORMAT /T:80
/N:9 (under win98)?
Thanks everyone,
Brian
