the shop. Well we must have something in the air because not a single
machine, new or old, goes together and installs smoothly. Not one. The
problems are always very random and puzzling too. ~sigh~ nothing to make
a body feel more stupid than to have a few computers around! Oh yeah, all
of them are one form or another of windows, OF COURSE!"
A few words of comfort Pippi - before I got into computers I worked as a
mechanic for many years. I worked on many different makes and models.
Never-the-less often (especially when starting a new job ;-) I'd run into a
model that was different from any that I had worked on before - even
though they all have cylinders and spark plugs and should have the same
symptoms and solutions - they didn't. What it requires is simply - time. To
grow accustomed to your surroundings, time to figure out what resources are
at your disposal and time to work out a diagnostic routine. Sometimes the
resources are coworkers. Ask them if they've seen anything similar - how
would they handle this problem, etc. Sometimes the best resource is the
Internet. Doing a search on Microsoft's Knowledge Base for the error
message has led me to a solution many times. A search on the component that
the problem is related to also has given me many solutions. But most of all
Pippi, give yourself a little time - it will all fall into place.
Congratulation and Best of luck on the new job
Dave
