They made PDF's readable on only one machine so that they  could sell  you
an e-book in PDF format.  It's an  option  in Acrobat 4 and above.  The
s/w builds a key file which locks the datafile to that particular box -
upon receipt of  payment.

They did a demo of it with some public-domain books.  I tried it, but my
daughter isn't sure  she wants to hear "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland"
at all, and then when I put the mousepad and 17" monitor on the bed
;{)....sigh, e-books have a long way to go.   And they will have to be
small and light  - updated SURVPC's?

I am probably not  going to be buying any PDF's for a while - but  living
far from any good book  stores (we're talking a 1 hour jet flight) -the
option has some appeal. Still,I guess I'm old.   I like the dead-tree
variety....
