Several years ago, I bought a high-speed UART serial card to let me use my
(then) 28.8Kbps modem on my 486. It really depends on your system. You might
try using it as-is, working up in speeds until/if it falters. Then simply
put an add-on board into it if you need to. If it's a newer board, it may be
just fine as-is.
Any external non-WinModem should work.
