Even simpler than a dos port of the Unix sed, is a dos port of
the unix line editor ex or ed. Interestingly the developments
were similar: In dos edlin was replaced by the screen editor,
edit. In Unix, the line editor ed and ex were replaced by the
screen editor vi, which still retained ed and ex ``underneath''
vi for those who wanted to do line editing.

The older version of the vi clone elvis, among other places includes
a dos port of ex, and ex, has a decent scripting capability, including
the powerful Unix like search and replace command.
