I have a new 300MHz AMD-K6/2 3DNOW! computer with an 8.4GB Maxtor hard
drive (I built it myself) and I need help! I know this computer doesn't
fit the requirements for a SurvPC (I DO have a SurvPC, and old Laptop with
1MB of RAM! I'm still able to be a member, lol), but this computer has
a problem similar to an old XT that one of you has had problems with:

* This computer has Red Hat Linux 6.1 on it (on a 4GB partition on the
"problem" HDD with a 32MB swap on a second 125MB HDD), and has NO problems!

* The PROBLEM is on the 2GB WIN98 partition (SAME problem HDD!). Soon
after connecting to the Internet, the 8.4GB Hard Drive, LOCK'S it's HEADS!!
I mean the thing actually goes "CLANK" and locks up the machine totally!
The platters continue to spin, because I can still hear them whirr.
I have to press "RESET" and if I load windows, it happens again, only
sooner! (ONLY when I connect to the Internet!) Weird, huh?

It also "clanked" and locked its heads 2 times today! Once when I was
writing this message to you! Is this the sign of future hardware
problems?? After all, it only started as an intermittent problem, now
it occurs every time I use the Internet! And if it is a sign of
hardware trouble, then why doesn't it happen to Linux????

P.S. It locked up today just by leaving it alone for 45 minutes!
(Similar to the old IBM XT with the "102" error!)
