I downloaded DR-DOS 7 from Caldera.com last year, and
am very happy with it. The most crashproof dos ever.
it has a task switch option, which I tried, but find
that mark.com & release.com work better for me when
I need to work with graphic apps. IIRC, Caldera's
taskswitcher will handle 8 virtual systems.

DR-DOS 7 also has a better version of mscdex.
DR-DOS 7 also has a config sys option; put a
? device=c:/dos/mscdex.exe
and the config will stop until you tell it to
either install, or skip the cd driver. or any
other config sys option.

As to the drive problems, I wonder if Norton and
PC tools have kept up with all the variations
and the mult-gig sizes.

DR-DOS 7 has a better fdisk. I recently got GDISK
from simtel, but have not had cause to use it yet.
I have several drives on hand, and switch them out
as need be. I dont use a computer case, but a plastic
4 gallon milk box. All the holes let the cables in,
and the motherbd slides out easily.

In any case, were I to do windoz, I would at least
use fdisk/gdisk to give it a partition to work with
so it would leave everything else alone. Then when
it screws up, as it always does, you can reformat
that partition without messing up the rest of your
drive. til then, I'd live with it until I hear of
a drive diagnostic/sector editor that will work.
