I wish there was a key combination to close all open windows (programs) in
Win98, before I shutdown my computer. If I just click Shutdown, letting
Windows close the programs, the way the programs are closed seems to be buggy,
resulting in strange things happening the next time I reboot my computer, and
run the same programs. I read up a little about how this is accomplished by
Windows, somewhere. All I know, is that my system works better, and reboots
better the next time, if I close all programs first, manually, before shutting
down Windows.

Now, why isn't there a key combo to do this? There is a key combination to
minimize all windows, so why not one to close all windows? Well, maybe part
of the reason is that that way might have to rely on the same buggy method
that the Shutdown algorithm uses.

The closest thing I have found, that isn't quite what I wanted, but is a
little easier, I found on the MS Knowledge base:

"...Closing several programs at once
Want to close a whole bunch of programs and windows at once? Here's a cool
trick:

     1.Select the programs and documents
you want to close by pressing and
holding down CTRL and left-clicking each
       item's button on the taskbar.
2.Right-click one of the selected buttons,
       and then click Close.
...

Well, does anyone know a key combo, or maybe even a little utility that would
close all programs *cleanly*, prior to shutting down Windows?

Oh, a nifty macro key program I found, named AutoIt, has a way to do this
also, but it warns you that you might lose any unsaved data, so I haven't
bothered to try it yet.
