Personally, I prefer a shelf. Although I keep the vinyl in a separate case.

I used to have a public directory on one of my NW servers (which is now
highscreen.jgsd.co.uk.invalid some of the time) for MP3s. Worked quite
well, especially when I wrote a NetWare-bound streaming player. Hardly any
noticable traffic on the wire while playing. Probably lost it now - the
perils of keeping source code on floppy disks...
