Hello SurvPC'rs!
I have just adopted an old IBM 3101 ASCII Terminal, and need some help!
Features include:
Monochrome 15" screen
External RS-232 Serial port (looks like a parallel port on a computer)
probably for hook-up to either Computer or Modem???
Wide-carriage Texas Instruments TTY printer, labeled: "Omni-800" 820 RO
Terminal."
Regular size terminal keyboard
Secondary communications port, also looks like a parallel port, maybe
for PRINTER???
Swivel base Logic stand.
There is one hunch---I can't get it to work with my computer, so I'd
like to use it for dialing up BBSs (Ah, the memories of the "primitive
internet") (If you could help me set it up for my computer, that would
also be helpful!). I have located the config switches, and there are 32
of them, and they are unlabeled!
The goal is to either set it up to an external modem to dial up BBSs,
or to hook it up to my computer, for kind of a "second-pc." I have found
absolutely NO INFO on the 'net for this particular model of terminal,
besides the common TERMCAP entries in Linux, and I am not interested in
reformatting my hard drive and reinstalling Linux! Has anybody heard of
this model besides me??? Any help in configuring it or using it is greatly
appreciated!
BTW, upon power-up, the screen has a blinking block cursor, while the
status line reads:
____________________________________________________________________
BLOCK MODE LOCK-LINE CHECK 2
Thanx,
Nick Dalzell

Happy Holiday's!
P.S. there was a TRS-80 person here a while back, maybe he can help--
after all the TRS-80's came out around the same date, as is reported on
my terminal...
