I mananged to hear shoutcast transmissions using linux on
486DX2-66 (16MB RAM), even Michael Polak's one, radio16.cz.
(well, the one he is involved with) on my 33k modem. This is data
going from Czech to Australia. :-)
remember, this is streaming mp3, and its sound quality is much
better than real audio.
I used mpg123, command line mp3 player :-)
The main trouble was getting my soundcard to work, and all that
required was uncommenting the correct line in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules
- I was using Slackware 3.9 IIRC.
