Sorry about that, what can I say but ditto!. I read my pdf files
using Acroread 3.0 for Windows 3.1. Did not try the DOS version or a
conversion before I posted, but did a conversion in DOS now.
Using pfdtotex.exe found in text2pdf.zip. Results looks OK. Have
not verified/looked at all the tables in the resulting output though,
so I'm only saying it looks reasonably OK (readable) at a first
glance(!), not that it is perfect. So - you might want to give it a
try. See Rich Green's site for a download link and more info:

ps: Seem to remember pdftotex.exe requires a DPMI host when run in
pure DOS. I ran it in a DOS box under Win, where Win provides the
DPMI, so I can not say for sure. Others might remember/offer some
input on this. If DPMI host required, you can find cwsdpmi.exe in
<ftp://ftp.simtel.net/pub/simtelnet/gnu/djgpp/v2misc/csdpmiXX.zip>
where XX is the version number (last time i looked it was 4b I
think).

All the best,
