You're on the right track thinking in terms of alternatives, but then you've
ALREADY bought Windows 9x, so removing of any components doesn't really
"vote" for anything. Vote with your pocketbook! That's the closest thing to
a committee with any impact I think you'll see.
Fortunately, alternatives are being developed with better feature sets and
higher quality.
