Concerning reading Acrobat PDF files and uninstalling IE,
I have succeeded in installing Acrobat Reader 2.0 on my Win3.1 SurvPC, a
486/20 with ONLY 1MB of RAM...I have had no problems using it! Anyway, I
used AOL30 to download it, maybe this older version is useful to some of
you, since my Laptop is a very low-resource system...
I have had BAD experiences trying to replace IE 4.0-higher with browsers
such as Netscape and Opera...
>From what I have done, with my old 486 PS/1, (With pentium upgrade) which
had WINDOWS 98 on it, when I tried to uninstall IE 4.0, and it made me
reboot, and after it rebooted, as soon as the icons were about to come up,
up came the General Protection Fault:
EXPLORER.EXE has caused an Illegal Operation and will
be shut down...
This error was repetitive, and then resulted in the so-called "Blue screen
of death." I had very well deleted the Internet Explorer, and since it was
integrated into Windoz 98 (Which used IE to view the desktop, Explorer file
utility, My Computer, Recycle-well you get the idea), it crashed my system
and had to be reinstalled!
Since this happened, I have learned to deal with explorer. I have also
learned that Netscape (or some other browser) and IE CANNOT coexist on one
windows installation...Maybe this will help!
