You shouldn't need PPoE unless your cable provider requires it. My Cox@Home
service uses a cable modem that just has an Ethernet (10Base-T) connector.
Plug your PC into it, load appropriate ethernet and TCP/IP drivers (properly
addressed) and it'll work. I (briefly) had DR-DOS going back when it was
free.
