Have you tried reversing the polarity of the LED connector?  Assuming that
the diode is not blown, or a wire broken (at one end?), that could fix it.

[Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) need a current-limiting resistor in series
(Usually on the circuit board.) to keep them from burning out.  Like
other diodes, they only conduct well in one direction.   Applying a
low voltage (~5V) in the wrong direction won't hurt.]
