Any PCMCIA [a.k.a. PC Card] reader which is not built into a notebook
computer is going to do one of two things, as far as I have seen:
1. hook to a serial or USB port
2. hook to a proprietary PCI/ISA bus controller.

Try finding a friend with a notebook computer, which has built-in
PCMCIA slots, and see if you can read the pictures from the media that
way.

Compact Flash media has a special mode in which a simple adaptor can
interface it to an IDE port.  You also can get Compact Flash adaptors
to let you use CF media in a PCMCIA slot.

I would suggest that perhaps there's a problem with the cable, or port,
which is preventing you from getting the pictures from the camera. If
you've tried getting pictures from the camera with three OSes, then
that pretty much rules out the software for it.
