Some newer "legacy free" computers are coming without serial or
parallel ports, to cut costs, but most desktop PCs still have serial
and parallel ports.

I have observed, though, that many new or recently-new systems are
coming with only DB-9 nine-pin connectors for the serial ports. You'll
need a DB-9 to DB-25 adaptor, which will sell for a couple of bucks at
your local computer store. You may be able to find a DB-9 to DB-25
cable, but these aren't too common. Whichever you find, make sure you
get the right genders on each end - you'll need to look at which
genders you have on your cables and on your friends' computers, and may
need to purchase a gender changer for another couple of bucks.

Hope this helps,
