I'm surprised that an educational institution is so
far behind the curve as to demand windows. However,
if you look at the help wanted ads in Engineering
and computers, what you will find is technical
certification all right, but... it is not from
an academic institution, but from passing one of
the increasingly ubiquitous tests on the knowledge
base which the employers are actually interested in.
When you consider that so many of the founders of these
hitech companies dropped out of college to go into
business, it makes sense that they'd look for people
astute enough to gain the actual technical skills in
demand- in the quickest, cheapest, and most effective
manner. The academic institutions, as we see here in
requiring windows software, are falling behind the
curve.
