Hello:

I have a Phillips VELO 1, being an outdated and discontinued
hand-held computer which runs Windows CE, version 1.0.

It has a POP3/SMTP email client that has no support for sending
file attachments. I just now finished conducting some experiments
and I have found a work-around.

This is what I did:

First I installed a DOS emulator named XT-CE on the device.
You can get XT-CE here: http://www.xt-ce.com.

Then I copied many of my favorite DOS programs and utilities
to my Windows CE device. Among the DOS programs that I copied
to my CE device were UUENCODE.EXE and UUDECODE.EXE. (I used
the same versions of these programs that come with Arachne.)

Using the XT-CE DOS emulator program I used UUENCODE to encode
some binaries. Then I got into the Windows CE email client
program. I composed email messages and included the UUENCODED
attachments. Then I sent the messages to myself at one of my
alternate email addresses. I retrieved the messages at the other
address with another machine using Arachne and Nettamer. After
I received the messages at the destination email address I
decoded them successfully with UUDECODE.EXE. I got all the great
results I was hoping for. I have found my method to be a
wonderful work-around for using this Windows CE version 1.0
device which comes with no support whatsoever for sending binary
file attachments. I just thought I would pass this info along
and I hope someone might find it useful.

BTW, does anyone know if the more advanced versions of Windows CE
come with built-in support for sending file attachments?

All the best,

Sam Heywood
