If it's set for IBM Proprinter, and if it works in that mode
for other graphics applications, the it makes sense that the
fax software would be set for Proprinter output.

Is this the case?

I don't know how complete the Proprinter emulation is
on a DJ 510.

If there is a Meta-command set that lets you switch modes
in software (see DJ 510 PCL commands), then you could
set it in PCL mode for the faxes.
