what do you think of this post on extreme tech?

        2065.1

I recently purchased a laptop with XP Home preinstalled. Imagine my utter
disbelief when I discovered that I could not connect the machine to any
of the three networks I generally use. The help system was misleading to
the point of being incorrect. I spent so long trying to fix the problem
that now it is too late to return the laptop. I just could not believe
that there was not some way to connect without comprimising the security
of the network.

Why should I assume that I could connect to domain controlers with a
version of the software for the home? Simple. Name one other operating
system that doesn't. Even MacOSX works better on microsoft networks than
XP Home does. I would be better off with Windows 95. (There's a phrase I
never thought I would state.)

XP Home is a defective product. How Microsoft can tell us that an
Internet browser is an integral part of the OS while the capability to
connect to Microsoft's own servers is not is beyond me.

I say it again. I proclaim it from the highest mountain. DO NOT BUY XP
HOME! If you buy a new machine, add $200 to the price for the network
access tax and get the Pro Upgrade at the same time. Suddenly Macs aren't
overpriced anymore

The responses to this post stated that NOT connecting to network was a
FEATURE of WinXP home !!
