Hi, Or.

On ships they keep small boats for use in emergencies,
called "life boats" or, on smaller boats and airplanes,
"life rafts" which are often inflatable.

When the main SURVPC list started having trouble
staying connected to the internet (you will recall what
Travis said when he finally got it back up), it was out
for weeks.

I wasn't able to contact Eko or Travis, and I was afraid
the list might disappear, so I created a "liferaft" to keep
the list alive while the fate of the "mother ship" (the main
list) was unknown.

Since I am the tech person for my wife's web site domain
(tmonroe.com), I established a list there and called it
[ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ]. I then rounded up all the
e-mail addresses I could find from the messages I had
saved, and sent each of them (including you) an invitation
to join the list.

This is an EZ-MLM list, therefore commands are sent in the
address instead of the message body. For example, if you
wanted to join, you would send a message (empty is ok) to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
and then respond to the confirmation message you get.

I have often wondered about the lack on response from
many SurvPC list members to that invitation. Evidently
several members didn't get my original broadcast.

Now that the emergency is long past, the tmonroe.com
(LifeRaft) version of the list continues to serve those who
enrolled. We still participate in both lists, but the topics
that go on [EMAIL PROTECTED] tend to be more
"interest" and "information" oriented. Occasionally the
discussions there get a little heated, but nobody gets
hurt -- well, maybe a little pride now and then.

The only thing that [EMAIL PROTECTED] does NOT
have yet is digest mode. I keep running into life's little
distractions. It does have archives, though, and those
can be accessed as an ad-hoc digest.

Of course I welcome anyone who wishes to subscribe.
I don't have a bunch of rules, although I discourage
attachments (I've established a public FTP site for that),
and the list software pretty much eliminates HTML in
the e-mail. There are no long headers or footers and
no embedded advertizing. Just a simple, no frills,
almost fully automated list.

We would welcome your participation. You are one of
the charter members of the original SurvPC list, and we
don't see enough of you.

(We don't see Pippi much either, but I believe that's
more because she's a busy lady. Still, I miss her sharp
 commentary.)

There you go -- a long answer to a short question.

Best Regards,
Garry Hamilton
